It is Spring- What Are Our Kids Doing?

It is Spring- What Are Our Kids Doing?

HCI asks this question, for some very good reasons- our children all are making decisions about whether to get into a car for a ride, attend a party where there could be trouble, join friends in drinking or drug use, and much more. How do we, as their parents, teachers, coaches, mentors and friends, keep them safe?

April 18, 2008 – MOCK CRASH at Penncrest High School for 12 th Grade Students

HCI is proud to bring this event, funded by a Grant from State Farm Insurance Co. to Riddle Memorial Hospital. Riddle EMT’s, Fire Companies, PA State Police, County Emergency Staff, and Medical Helicopter Services will produce and actual Mock Crash with all the bells and whistles, plus the emotions. Students from the HCI Club, SADD and Physical Education Classes will have roles as actors and provide tech support. Professional actors and makeup artists from The Media Theatre will assist as well. NBC Newsman, Jamison Uhler will be the emcee.

Bryn Mawr Rehab will bring a former patient to share with the students his experience following a car crash.

This powerful production is hoped to shock teens into thinking long and hard about the choices they make when driving under the influence or being a passenger in that car. Of course, prom time isn’t the only opportunity for teens to make good decisions about driver safety- every single day they face these choices and this event will drive home that message.

April 26, 2008 - HCI 1 st Annual Music Fest & Laxapalooza Games

The HCI Club will host this FREE event at Penncrest High School, with bands, soloists and other artistic performers as a celebration of diversity of talent and a major fundraiser for the club. The Laxapalooza Games, organized by an HCI Board Member, Jeff Pettit, will be going on at the same time, so the day is loaded with activities for everyone. The Laxapalooza Games start at 10am, the Music Fest from 11am till 7pm.

April 22, 2008 – “Real Life Incidents” with PA State Trooper Jon Sunderlin

Trooper Sunderlin asks, “ Are you concerned with drug and alcohol use by the children and youth of our community”? This program is designed for adults and will provide information on the topics that impact our Rose Tree Media Community, such as:

  • Teen Alcohol and Drug Use
  • Current Types of Drug Abuse by Teens
  • Concealment Methods and Symptoms of Drug Use
  • Legal Consequences Associated with Drug and Alcohol Arrests

The public is welcome and encouraged by HCI to attend, as Trooper Sunderlin experiences every day the consequences of teens making bad choices. No one can continue to say, “this isn’t something my child will do” – we have witnessed too much tragedy and must make changes to the way we deal with these issues if we are to keep our children safe and alive.

The program is in the Penncrest High School Auditorium, 7:00pm – 8:30pm, with a question and answer segment.
