SUPER SUNDAY Brings Out HCI “Sunshine”

The traditional Super Sunday is the chance for the community to stroll State Street in Media to find delicious foods, antiques, wonderful crafts, unique clothing and jewelry as well as discover the richness in organizations that exist right in our communities.

This past Sunday was sunny, warm, breezy and totally SUPER. The streets filled early with kids and adults looking for fun, bargains and something to eat! Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI) had a display table set up on the farthest western end of the event, situated across from an Animal Rescue display full of bunnies and kitties. What better place to be in order to catch the attention of kids and families?

HCI proudly showcased the important work that has been done over the past 7 years, which include Youth Sports Clinics, Parenting Discussion Groups, Community Service Projects and Internships. The “flagship” effort that HCI is touting these days is the Partners in Excellence (P.I.E.) Mentoring Program. With a focus on relationship building and character development of youngsters beginning in 8th grade and continuing through high school, the program is unique in that Business Leaders have been brought to the table to be mentors. So many times youth state that there are “no adults for me to talk to”, and this can make all the difference in the choices teens will make when it comes to risky behaviors.

If you would like to discuss with HCI your ideas on mentoring or possibly your offer of time and talent to the program, please contact HCI by calling 610-891-6286 or visit www.hci-rtm.org and send us a message.
